Used RV loan rates compared with new

Lenders that publish both show the gap directly. These are each lender's lowest published rates for a comparable term; your rate depends on your credit, the loan amount and the RV.

What a higher used-RV rate costs

Model year matters more than mileage to most lenders. On a $40,000 loan over 10 years, 8% APR costs $485 a month and $18,237 in interest. At 10%, a common rate for an RV around ten years old, it costs $529 a month and $23,432 in interest: $5,195 more for the same amount.

That is why a slightly newer RV can cost about the same per month as an older, cheaper one. Run both prices through the calculator with the rate each would get.

How lenders treat older RVs

  • Rate tiers by model year. Most published rate sheets step up every few model years, as in the table above.
  • Shorter maximum terms. Older units often qualify only for shorter terms, which raises the payment even if the price is lower.
  • Age cut-offs. Some lenders do not publish rates for RVs older than about ten years at all; ask before you shop.
  • Valuation limits. Lenders cap the loan at a share of the RV's book value, not the asking price. If the seller asks more, you cover the gap in cash.
  • Private-party sales. Buying from an individual is often allowed, but the lender handles the title and lien transfer, and some set lower limits.

Frequently asked questions

What is a typical used RV loan rate?

For good credit and an RV a few years old, published credit union rates in the table run from about 7.5% to 9.5% for terms up to seven years. Older RVs and lower scores pay more.

How old an RV can I finance?

It depends on the lender. Several credit unions publish rates for models back to about 2013–2016; for older RVs ask directly, or consider a personal loan.

Should I get an inspection before financing a used RV?

Yes. Water damage, roof leaks and chassis problems are expensive and are not covered by the loan. An independent RV inspection costs far less than a repair.
