How Texas taxes an RV purchase
Texas charges motor vehicle sales tax of 6.25% of the sales price minus any trade-in allowance. For a used vehicle bought from a private seller, the taxable value may be based on the vehicle's standard presumptive value rather than the price you paid.
Private-party buyers generally have 30 days to pay the tax, with penalties after that. New residents bringing a vehicle already registered in their name pay a flat $90 new resident tax instead of use tax.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to use a Texas lender?
No. Nationwide lenders and credit unions with open membership lend in every state; Alliant Credit Union, for example, offers RV loans up to 20 years. Compare at least one local and one national offer.
Which tax rate applies if I buy outside Texas?
Usually the rate where you register the RV. Buying in another state rarely avoids your home state's tax.
