RV Loan Rates by Credit Score: What Your FICO Means
Most RV lenders want a credit score of 670 or higher. Above that line, each step up in score still lowers your rate, and on a long RV loan that adds up to thousands of dollars.
Average vehicle loan rates by credit tier
Lenders do not publish RV rates by credit score, so the best public benchmark is Experian's data on auto loans. RV rates tend to be similar to used-car rates or slightly higher, so treat the used-car column as a floor rather than a quote.
| Credit tier | Score range | New-car APR | Used-car APR | Payment on $50,000, 10 years, at the used-car APR |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Super prime | 781–850 | 4.41% | 6.29% | $562$17,489 interest |
| Prime | 661–780 | 6.15% | 8.81% | $628$25,390 interest |
| Near prime | 601–660 | 9.71% | 13.93% | $774$42,907 interest |
| Subprime | 501–600 | 13.52% | 19.1% | $937$62,396 interest |
| Deep subprime | 300–500 | 16.11% | 21.62% | $1,021$72,469 interest |

What the gap between tiers costs
On a $50,000 loan over 10 years at these rates, a super-prime borrower would pay $17,489 in interest. A prime borrower would pay $25,390, and a near-prime borrower $42,907: $25,418 more than the top tier for the same RV.
Can you get an RV loan with a 680 credit score?
Yes. A 680 score is above the 670 minimum most RV lenders use, and it falls in Experian's prime tier (661–780). Expect a rate above the lowest advertised rates, which assume excellent credit, but within normal range. Raising your score into the 700s before applying, or putting more money down, can lower the rate further.
Below 670
Some lenders still approve borrowers below 670, often with a larger down payment, a shorter term or a co-borrower. Rates rise steeply: Bankrate puts the top of the RV loan range at 35.99%. At those rates, saving for a larger down payment or a cheaper RV is often the better move.
How to improve your score before you apply
- Pull your free credit reports and dispute any errors.
- Pay down credit card balances; utilization has a large effect on scores.
- Make every payment on time in the months before you apply.
- Avoid opening other new credit accounts just before the RV loan.
- Do your rate shopping within a short window so inquiries are grouped.
Frequently asked questions
Which credit score do RV lenders use?
It varies by lender. Many use a FICO score, sometimes an industry-specific version, from one or more of the three credit bureaus. Ask the lender which score and bureau it pulls.
Does checking RV loan rates hurt my credit?
Prequalification usually uses a soft inquiry, which does not affect your score. A formal application uses a hard inquiry, which can lower it slightly for a short time.
Will a co-signer get me a better rate?
It can, if the co-signer has stronger credit. They become fully responsible for the loan if you do not pay.
