Financing a camper is a small-loan problem
Pop-up campers, truck campers, teardrops and small travel trailers often come in under $30,000. That matters because lenders set their longest terms and best rates by loan size. Navy Federal Credit Union, for example, only offers terms over 84 months on loans of at least $30,000 and terms of 61–84 months on loans of at least $25,000. NASA Federal Credit Union lists its lowest rate, 6.04%, for loans up to 36 months.
A shorter term usually costs less overall. On a $22,000 camper loan at 8.5% APR, a 5-year term costs $451 a month and $5,082 in interest. A 10-year term drops the payment to $273 but more than doubles the interest to $10,732.

RV loan or personal loan for a camper?
An RV loan is secured by the camper, which usually means a lower rate. For a cheaper camper, some lenders will not write a secured RV loan at all, and an unsecured personal loan may be the only option. Personal loans skip the lien and title paperwork but charge more: compare the APR, not just the payment.
If you already own a truck and are buying a truck camper or small trailer, also check whether your lender treats it as an RV or as a trailer. The category can change both the rate and the maximum term.
Frequently asked questions
How long can you finance a camper?
Most camper loans run 3 to 7 years. Terms of 10 years or more are generally reserved for larger loans; check the minimum loan amount for each term with your lender.
What is a typical camper loan rate?
Published credit union RV rates start between 6.04% and 7.45% for short terms and excellent credit. Your rate will depend on credit, term, loan amount and the camper's age. See current RV loan rates.
Can I finance a used camper?
Yes, but expect a higher rate on older model years. NASA Federal Credit Union adds 1 to 2 percentage points depending on the model year.
