Depreciation is not a monthly bill, but it is a cost: assuming a 20% drop in year one and 6% a year after that, a $60,000 RV would be worth about $37,476 after five years. Compare that with the $38,024 you would still owe on the loan at that point.
How an RV loan payment is calculated
RV loans are simple-interest installment loans: a fixed payment every month, with interest charged on the balance you still owe. The payment comes from the standard amortization formula:
M = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ ((1 + r)n − 1)
Here P is the amount financed, r is the APR divided by 12, and n is the number of monthly payments. Take $50,000 financed at 8% APR for 12 years: r is 0.00667, n is 144, and the payment works out to $541.23 a month. Over the full term you would pay $27,937 in interest, so the $50,000 RV loan costs $77,937 in total.
The calculator above runs the same formula and adds what the formula leaves out: sales tax, the cash you need at signing, extra payments and a year-by-year schedule.
RV loan payment table
Monthly payments for common RV loan sizes. Longer terms lower the payment but add a lot of interest, which is why lenders tie 15- and 20-year terms to larger loans.

| $25,000 | $303$11,398 interest | $239$18,004 interest | $209$25,186 interest |

What moves your payment
The loan term
Stretching $50,000 at 8% from 10 to 15 years drops the payment from $607 to $478, but total interest rises from $22,797 to $36,009. RVs lose value faster than the balance falls on a long loan, so a long term makes it easy to owe more than the RV is worth.
The interest rate
On the same $50,000, 12-year loan, 7% APR means $514 a month and 10% means $598, a difference of $12,002 over the loan. Published RV rates currently start at 6.04% for short terms and excellent credit, and Bankrate puts the top of the market at 35.99%. See current RV loan rates and how your credit score changes them.
The age of the RV
Lenders charge more for older units. NASA Federal Credit Union, for example, adds 1 percentage point for model years 2016–2021 and 2 points for 2015 and older. If you are shopping used, run the calculator with a higher rate.
Sales tax
Sales tax is charged on the purchase price, before your down payment is subtracted. Most buyers roll it into the loan, which means paying interest on the tax too. Untick that option in the calculator to see the cash you would need to pay it at signing instead.
Frequently asked questions
How long can you finance an RV?
Smaller RV loans usually run 5 to 7 years. Larger loans can run 15 or 20 years: Alliant Credit Union offers terms up to 240 months, and Navy Federal Credit Union requires at least $30,000 financed for terms over 84 months.
How much should I put down on an RV?
Plan on 10% to 20%. A larger down payment lowers the payment and the interest, can get you a better rate, and protects you against owing more than the RV is worth as it depreciates.
What credit score do I need for an RV loan?
Most RV lenders look for a score of 670 or higher, according to Bankrate. Lower scores can still qualify with some lenders, at a higher rate or with a larger down payment.
Is the interest on an RV loan tax deductible?
It can be, if the RV has sleeping, cooking and toilet facilities, the loan is secured by the RV and you itemize deductions. Read the full rules.
Does this calculator include fees?
No. Documentation, title and registration fees vary by dealer and state. Add them to the RV price if you plan to finance them.
